Champions Train Here!! is emblazoned on the lobby wall at Tiger Rock Martial Arts Studio. Back in February 2011, Brandon Keeton received military orders to be stationed in New Cumberland. He was retired from amateur boxing for 10 years and wanted to incorporate that with something his entire family could enjoy. He had trained in different martial arts (Muay Thai, Krav Maga, Tae Kwon Do) and decided that Tae Kwon Do would be the discipline to get more involved in. From there he had to research the different Tae Kwon Do schools and decided on Tiger Rock which incorporated more kickboxing and sparring. After visiting the Tiger Rock franchises down South he chose them and began working on moving forward to open the studio in New Cumberland which took place November 1, 2012.
He offers adult and youth Tae Kwon Do classes. 4 to 5 year olds are the youngest, then 6-8, 9-11, 12-15 and 16 to adult is how they are grouped. There have been 13 National Champions and 5 World Champions that trained in Brandon's studio. When I met with Brandon to write this post he was working on sending 22 students to Spring National Tournament which are the most to date. 21 students came home with 56 medals from the National Tournament which is a testament to their hard work and training!
Brandon will also be holding four summer camps this year and he teams up with West Shore Recreation Commission to do so. The camps are for youth ages 6 and up.
One thing that Brandon stated that made it clear that this is what he should be doing - "when you take the child that is always picked last for everything and can turn him into a national champion in 8 months......"
This proves that at Tiger Rock Martial Arts champions really do train here!!
My name is Christy and I moved to the West Shore ten years ago and into New Cumberland in September 2012. I really enjoy living here and getting to know the community better every day. I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my dog.
