A cinematic icon....the West Shore Theatre has been a part of my life since I was little. I immediately was taken back to my childhood when I stepped into the theater to meet with Fred Bollen who is the current owner of the theatre. The smell of popcorn and the original architecture of the theater brought me right back to the time when my grandparents would bring me to see movies like E.T. and Raiders of the Lost Ark in a single theatre setting versus a multiplex cinema (which didn't exist when I was little).
In December 1986, Fred Bollen bought the West Shore Theatre from the original owners after a discussion with friends on a local motorcycle ride. Little did Fred know that the theatre would take on such an iconic status over the years as one of the only locally owned and managed theaters in the area with such a rich history. The theatre opened in 1940 and Fred is only the second owner who would bring it into the current day.
Bringing the theatre into modern times would be a challenge for the small venue as the digital upgrade would cost over 100 thousand dollars. The community of New Cumberland pulled together and so began the campaign to save the theatre so they could move forward and not have to close. As a result, the theatre now boasts 7.1 sound with 4 different channel surround as well as 4K pixels which his higher than HD TV currently.
With the digital upgrade he realized he would have to raise ticket prices to 3 dollars on Tuesdays, 4.50 the rest of the week and 5 dollars on Friday and Saturday. However, a single ticket price at any mulitplex in the area starts at 10 dollars and up to 14 dollars for 3D. So why go anywhere else for movie night? Please come to the West Shore Theatre where tickets are half the price and you are not beating the concession prices anywhere else!!
See for yourself why the West Shore Theatre is truly a cinematic icon......
My name is Christy and I moved to the West Shore ten years ago and into New Cumberland in September 2012. I really enjoy living here and getting to know the community better every day. I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my dog.
